Our Daily Mission

“I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. 2 Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.” (Romans 12:1-2)

Paul’s words invite us to offer our whole selves to God: our bodies, minds and our wills. During this season of COVID-19 we have experienced many emotions and if we only have what the world can offer to face these uncertain times, fear would be a natural response. But because of God’s sovereign will we can know that even amidst the crisis, God is in charge. We have hope because of His capacity not because of our abilities.

I was so encouraged by the great work of our CPC supported missionaries that was highlighted last week during our Great Commission week. They are offering their entire lives to serve the LORD around the world and right in our backyard. What an honor it is to partner with them as we as a church commit hundreds of thousands of dollars annually to support this vital work. This is one form of sacrifice that is pleasing to God. Your sacrifice financially means that churches are planted, disciples are being replicated, needs are being met and mission projects are going forward. When we offer our prayers for these missionaries it is another form of sacrifice pleasing to God as we petition God for breakthroughs and thank God for those who connect more deeply with Christ. And when you personally offer your whole self as a sacrifice to God daily— in big and small ways—God’s will is shaping you as a disciple of His and are being transformed into His likeness.

So today let’s come before the LORD committed to not conform this world that is pressuring us to choose fear as the basis for living. When we embrace the hope that is in Christ, we are generous towards others in sharing about the good news of Jesus Christ and showing the good news of Jesus Christ in practical ways.

Living Out the Word of God

Choose one missionary from the list on our website and reach out to them to offer your prayer support. You can get their contact info by emailing our Missions Committee (missions@carmelpres.org). Ask how you can specifically pray for them and commit to do so this next week.

Prayer

Father, we want to be transformed as our minds revolve more around Your will and ways instead of the ways of the world which push us toward a fear mentality. With hope we choose to live today in confidence of Your Spirit’s presence with us no matter our current circumstances. Help me to embrace a missionary identity who is called not only to support those who are serving around the world but my own call to join Christ on my mission to glorify You every day. Amen.
