Hide and Seek

For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. – Colossians 3:3

This past Sunday, I invited our church to imagine Jesus draping Himself over each and every one of us. This image could have conjured up a variety of thoughts. At first, I was thinking about Christ simply embracing with me lavish love. But then, I began to sense a feeling of protection. I got the distinct impression that Jesus was covering me up in order to guard me against the devil’s schemes. And in a similar vein, I began to picture Jesus guarding me from death. After all, that is exactly what He did (and does) for us. He took the bullet for me and you, and demonstrated that there is no greater love than this, that He laid down His life for His friends.

How does that make you feel? Loved? Protected? Blessed? Perhaps you even feel conviction or unworthiness. I want you to take some time and stay there. Hide in Christ’s covering and seek His face. Don’t do anything else…just be there. As you take time this week to consider the covering that Christ offers you, I want to encourage you to write down what the Holy Spirit puts on your heart. Above all else, Jesus wants a personal relationship with you. All too often we over complicate this. Just hide and seek. That’s it.

PRAYER

Jesus, our Eternal Covering, remind us of our safety in You. Remind us of the love that You cover us with. Help us to hide in the shelter of Your presence. May we seek You and find You this week. Amen.
