Advent comes from the Latin word adventus meaning “arrival.” Advent is a time of waiting and preparation for the arrival of Jesus into our world. This four-week period of waiting is marked by hope and faith, joy and peace. Jesus’ arrival into our world as a tiny baby is a certainty. We don’t wonder if He will come. We wait knowing He has come. Each week, we light an advent candle, marking the posture of our waiting. The light on our advent wreath grows each week as the time of His coming draws near. The “Light of the world” is coming.
